What is dry needling?
Dry Needling is a treatment that targets trigger points to relieve pain and tension. A trigger point is a taut band within a muscle that is hypersensitive and irritable. This can cause pain locally or can refer to other areas leading to stiffness, tenderness and other problems. Trigger points are bout 3-6mm in diameter and occurs when the muscle is restricted resulting in an increase of fluid between the muscle fibres.

What does treatment involve?
For treatment to be effective and safe you need a Physiotherapist with advanced training in dry needling. This individual will then inserting a fine needle into the centre of the trigger point in the area where you’re experiencing pain. Once inserted, your physiotherapist may rotate the needle, and you could feel a deep ache at the trigger point or referral area. Dry needling, in combination with other Physiotherapy techniques, has proven to be an effective method for controlling everyday pain. Dry needling is mostly a painless treatment when administered by by one of our Physiotherapist who all have advanced training in this excellent treatment technique.
