What is Exercise Physiology?

Accredited Exercise Physiologists specialise in clinical interventions for people with a broad range of chronic health conditions (i.e., cardiovascular, metabolic, respiratory, musculoskeletal, oncology and neurology). Exercise Physiology interventions are to prevent/manage acute, sub-acute or chronic disease/injuries in order to assist in restoring an individual’s optimal quality of life. Exercise Physiologist’s provide functional based exercises whilst educating, providing advice and support for individuals on adapting and applying new lifestyle modifications with a focus on achieving behavioural change.

Accredited Exercise Physiologists provide a tailored and personalised exercise programs that are in accordance with client goals, capabilities, and motivations. This may include home exercise programs that are performed in the comfort of their home or gym-based settings.

The ideology of Exercise Physiology is to provide clients with a service that is specifically targeted in improving functional capacity, physical fitness, and ability.

What does Caroline Springs Physiotherapy, Accredited Exercise Physiologists do?

At Caroline Springs Physiotherapy, our Accredited Exercise Physiologists consider all diagnosed chronic conditions, assess your functional capacity and designed a personalised exercise program specific to results, goals and motivations. These exercise programs are guided with movement pattern corrections, monitoring progression, motivating the client and providing a level of independence and autonomy.

Exercise Physiology and Chronic Conditions

As Accredited Exercise Physiologists we target managing chronic conditions through exercise, this provides many benefits in minimising progression of condition effects (ie. diabetes, cardiovascular disease, asthma, osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, mental health illness etc). In providing a service that is targeted upon chronic condition management, clients will be able to adhere to medication compliance more appropriately, improve functional capacity and return to once loved activities (ie. gardening, walking, physical activities) or adapt to new activities.

Accredited Exercise Physiologists and Personal Training

Although we are much like personal trainers, Accredited Exercise Physiologists provide a more individualised service that takes into consideration client conditions, medication responses, movement patterns and physical/psychological ability in providing a concise and tailored exercise program.

We consider:

  1. What type of results YOU want: to be more able, lose weight or return to work/activity?
  2. Motivation: whether need support and supervision
  3. Injuries
  4. Would like to exercise, but are not comfortable in a gym setting
  5. Advice in providing a more tailored exercise routine

Accredited Exercise Physiologists aim is to provide a service that is targeted to the clients goals, motivations, capabilities with AEP assistance in developing exercise programs that is specific, realistic and functional.
